World Day Against the Death Penalty recognized in Oklahoma

To mark World Day Against the Death Penalty, OK-CADP held a press conference at the State Capitol to announce a new statement of opposition signed by Christian leaders in the state. A featured speaker was State Senator Connie Johnson, whose brother was murdered in 1981. Here is coverage of the event by the Oklahoman.

Oklahoma senator pledges to abolish state’s death penalty
In observance of a worldwide movement Wednesday to end executions, the Oklahoma Conference of Churches and Sen. Constance Johnson pledged to end the death penalty.

The statement, entitled “Theological Statement in Opposition to the Death Penalty” was published by the Oklahoma Conference of Churches. You can read the statement here (PDF).
