2nd Annual Restoring Justice Public Confession Event

On Tuesday, April 28, at 8 p.m., a ceremony of confession and repentance will be held for our actions and inaction, both individually and as a society, that have contributed to the creation of a mindset that so quickly turns to violence and death as a solution to our problems.   The event will be held at the Jesus Wept Statue at 5th & Harvey, in downtown Oklahoma City.

As the state government seeks to further institutionalize violence and return evil for evil, it is important for us individually and together to affirm positive values and confess those ways in which we have absorbed violence into our thoughts and behavior. We choose to publicly acknowledge our deep-rooted personal and systemic failings. We choose to publicly voice our desperate need for more thoughtful, responsible, and creative ways of finding healing.

Preceding and following this evening’s event, you are invited to sign the Declaration of Life. This is a document that publicly announces opposition to the death penalty and requests that it not be sought if the signer becomes the victim of a capital crime.

Restoring Justice Oklahoma respectfully invites you to join us for a brief time of serious reflection and confession. While words like “confession” and “forgiveness” will be used, these terms are meant in a broad, not specifically religious sense; we welcome all to sincere participation.

The event is free and open to the public.  For more information, visit www.facebook.com/restoringjusticeok
